Maintaining the accuracy of your noise and vibration measurement instruments is essential in order to protect your employees, the environment and your business from the risks excessive exposure can pose. Cirrus Research offers a world-class factory calibration service. Every single component of your instrument will be tested both acoustically and electrically, and every parameter that it measures is verified to ensure absolute accuracy. Regular sound meter calibration is important to guarantee the reliability of the data your instrument captures, as well as to remain compliant with local health and safety legislation.

For more information on our traceable calibration service or to book your instruments in, please get in touch with our friendly UK-based in-house calibration team. Alternatively, you can download the two-page overview of our calibration service.

What can Cirrus Research calibrate?

We can calibrate noise and vibration instruments from any manufacturer.

  • Sound level meters
  • Noise dosimeters
  • Acoustic calibrators
  • Environmental noise monitors
  • Vibration meters

Important information: Please ensure that you transfer all your data from your device to your PC/laptop before sending it in for calibration. Your instrument's memory is wiped as part of the calibration process and we cannot guarantee that we will be able to recover any lost data.

What we offer from our acoustic calibration lab, as standard

Quick turnaround times to minimise the impact on your business

For the calibration of our standard products, we provide a standard three-working day turnaround.

This ensures you get your equipment back as soon as possible, minimising the time that you are without your instrumentation.

If you need to have equipment to cover the period yours is in for servicing and calibration, we offer a range of instruments for rental, so please get in touch and let us know what you need.

If your equipment is damaged or needs repairs, it may take a little longer to get your instruments back to you. We'll always endeavour to get the repairs carried out as quickly as possible, without compromising on the quality or accuracy of our work.

No hidden costs or surprise additional fees

If your Cirrus Research noise measurement equipment needs to be repaired, we offer a fixed-price service, which covers getting your instrument back into full working order.

As part of this service, we will recalibrate your instrument, unless you request otherwise, replace any damaged displays, and check that your instrument is running the latest version of its firmware.

If your instrument is covered by our 15-Year Warranty, we will also include the replacement of damaged microphone capsules.

If your equipment has fallen out of warranty, we offer attractive microphone replacement offers and the option of buying back into the warranty scheme.

Protect your investment and play your part to protect the planet

Cirrus Research offers all products with a one-year return-to-base guarantee against all faults.

This warranty is extendable, one year at a time, up to a maximum of 15 years, if the instruments are calibrated annually with Cirrus Research plc or an approved Cirrus Research calibration centre. In short, if your instrument is calibrated annually with Cirrus Research, then you can enjoy peace of mind for up to 15 years, through our industry-leading warranty policy.

Not only is your investment protected for 15 years, but your budget is spared the expense of having to regularly replace faulty equipment and you'll be doing your bit to help protect the environment.

Why is acoustic calibration important?

If you are using your noise measurement instruments to meet any Standards, Regulations or Guidelines, it is essential that your equipment is measuring accurately. Most modern standards, regulations of guidelines will clearly state the standards to which the equipment must comply.

For example, the 2005 Control of Noise At Work Regulations states "Your sound level meter should meet at least Class 2 of BS EN 61672-1:2003 (the current instrumentation standard for sound level meters)..", "Your dosemeter should meet the requirements of BS EN 61252:1997 Dosemeters have no type or class number." and "Your calibrator should meet at least Class 2 of BS EN 60942:2003".

Similarly, BS 4142:2014 states: "Select systems for measuring sound pressure levels, including microphone(s), cable(s), windscreen(s), recording devices and other accessories which conform to BS EN 61672-1, Class 1, for free-field application, as appropriate. Filters, where used, should conform to BS EN 61260, Class 1, and sound calibrators to BS EN 60942, Class 1."

If you are going to continue to use your noise measurement instruments over a long period, it is vital that they continue to meet these same standards and this is why calibration, both Field Calibration and Periodic Verification, are an essential part of undertaking noise measurements.
